Devotion:
Luke 5:16 says, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Even Jesus who was always busy and constantly surrounded by people — made time to be alone with the Father. If the Son of God needed quiet, how much more do we?
Teens today are pulled in a hundred directions: school, sports, social media, friends, family responsibilities. It’s easy to treat prayer and Bible time like optional extras you do when everything else is finished. But Jesus modeled something different — intentional withdrawal. That means setting aside distraction, stepping away from the noise, and giving God undivided attention.
Withdrawal doesn’t have to mean something dramatic and a huge portion of time. It can be a quiet five minutes before class, a walk between practices, or turning your phone off for a moment. The point is to create space where your heart can hear from God. In those moments we remember who we are, whose we are, and what really matters. Prayer becomes less about checking a box and more about relationship — listening as much as speaking.
Try this: pick one small block of time tomorrow — even ten minutes — and use it to be alone with God. Read a short verse, tell Him honestly how you feel, then sit quietly and listen. You might not feel anything dramatic right away, and that’s okay. The habit matters more than the feeling.
